Subject: Money

Question 4:

What is God's attitude toward money?     MP3

Clearly if we know what God's attitude is toward money, we will know what our attitude should be.

There is one book that can help in this area.

Everything the Bible Says About Money by Lin Johnson. See it here. There are others on the market and much can be gleaned from them including knowing what God's attitude is toward money.

Let us look at some scriptures.

Money Comes from God
Deuteronomy 8:18
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

1 Chronicles 29:10-16 ...King David's prayer as Israelites build the Temple
10 Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.

Psalm 24:1
The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

Psalm 50:10
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

Ecclesiastes 5:19
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

Haggai 2:8
The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

Romans 11:36
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

God Gives His Children Enough
Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 37:25
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Philippians 4:19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Choose Money or God
1 Kings 2:3
And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

Proverbs 8:10-11
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Proverbs 8:18-21
18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

Psalm 62:10
Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

Job 22:21
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

1 Kings 2:3
And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

In all of these scriptures about choosing Money or God, the meaning is that the spiritual elements will always be more important than the physical one.  These scriptures are not condemning riches, prosperity or possessions.  1 Kings 2:3 clearly says that if your primary focus is on the spiritual, the physical prosperity can be known.

This is  the attitude God has toward money.  This needs to be our attitude.

---Know that all your money and possessions belong to God.
---God will provide for us, regardless of the circumstances.  He will give us enough.
---God must be first and foremost in our lives.

Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
