SUBJECT: Jesus
QUESTION: Did the Old Testament patriarchs know that
it was Christ that they were encountering or talking to?
ANSWER:
I doubt very much that many of the patriarchs knew much
beyond their written statements. However, Daniel's 7th
chapter definitely shows that there are TWO members of
Divine Elohim. Just how much they knew about the necessity
for a Savior is obscure. Otherwise, they would not have
practiced sacrifices as they did.
To them, (as in David's
prayer in Psalm 51), their sacrifices and prayers
went directly to God. They recognized an earthly priesthood,
not a Divine, heavenly one. As Isaiah said, "To this man
will I look, to him that is poor (humble),
and of a contrite heart." They did not have anywhere near
the knowledge imparted to the apostle Paul. This shows that
the accumulation of KNOWLEDGE and "doctrine" is nowhere near
as important as a person with brokenhearted repentance.
Witness the 144,000, who will repent in only moments, just
as did Saul on the road to Damascus
