SUBJECT: Wrath of God
QUESTIONS: Is it true that God had a willingness to kill
evil people? Are there examples in the Bible that
demonstrate His wrath? Does God hate some types of
people? What is the real target of His wrath?
What does He ultimately want for man?
ANSWER:
There are scores of scriptures that show this element of
God's makeup. Following are enough to make the point.
Exodus 22:24
And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the
sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children
fatherless.
Numbers 11:1
And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and
the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire
of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in
the uttermost parts of the camp.
Numbers 11:33
And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was
chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the
people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great
plague.
Psalm 7:11
God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked
every day.
Psalm 90:11
Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy
fear, so is thy wrath.
Isaiah 13:13
Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall
remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts,
and in the day of his fierce anger.
Jeremiah 21:5-6
5 And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched
hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and
in great wrath.
6 And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man
and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.
Nahum 1:2
God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth,
and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his
adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
Nahum 1:6
Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in
the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like
fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
Matthew 22:7
But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent
forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned
up their city.
Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth
in unrighteousness;
Ephesians 5:6
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these
things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of
disobedience.
Colossians 3:6
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the
children of disobedience:
Revelation 6:16-17
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide
us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from
the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be
able to stand?
Revelation 15:1
And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous,
seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is
filled up the wrath of God.
Revelation 19:15
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he
should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod
of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and
wrath of Almighty God.
And finally a description of the final battle between man
and God:
Revelation 14:19-20
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and
gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great
winepress of the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood
came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by
the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
Note: Blood will
flow to a depth of over 5 feet..."even unto the horse
bridles".
This should be enough to make the point about the wrath of
God and who has and will receive that wrath.
It is very important to point out now that in
all these scriptures, the target is not the evil people, per
se, but evil itself. God hates evil. He does not hate
people. Notice.

Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men
count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not
willing that any should perish, but that all should come to
repentance.

Peter 3:15
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;
even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the
wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
Exodus 34:6
And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD,
The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and
abundant in goodness and truth,
Psalm 86:15
But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and
gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
Isaiah 30:18
And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious
unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have
mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed
are all they that wait for him.
Romans 9:22
What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his
power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of
wrath fitted to destruction:
Romans 2:4
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance
and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God
leadeth thee to repentance?
1 Timothy 1:16
Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first
Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a
pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to
life everlasting.
1 Timothy 2:4
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the
knowledge of the truth.
Titus 2:11
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared
to all men.
So we see clearly that God’s wrath is against evil and His
plan is to bring all men to repentance, the Salvation
Process and eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
