SUBJECT: Second Resurrection and Marriage
QUESTION: In the Second resurrection, who will be
married to whom? What about people who had multiple
marriages in life; which of those people will they be
married to after the resurrection?
ANSWER:
First, let us look at the scripture when Jesus was asked a
similar question:
Matthew 22:23-30
23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that
there is no resurrection, and asked him,
24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no
children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up
seed unto his brother.
25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first,
when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue,
left his wife unto his brother:
26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the
seventh.
27 And last of all the woman died also.
28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of
the seven? for they all had her.
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing
the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given
in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
These verses are not
talking about the Second Resurrection. Remember that the
Sadducees did not even believe in the resurrection and were
asking this question to trip up Jesus and therefore proclaim
that their belief was valid.
We are actually talking about the Kingdom of God here, when
we will all be spirit beings. This is why Jesus says in
verse 30 that we will be like the angels (spirit
beings) and there will be no marriage.
Marriage is a physical type of the oneness that spirit
beings will experience. Why have the model or physical type
after you have achieved the spiritual type?
Now as to the Second Resurrection and the question of
marriage in that 100 year period.
--This resurrection is for all the people who ever lived,
but who never had the Holy Spirit.
--They will be raised with new or renewed physical bodies
and with all memories, thoughts and life experience intact.
--They will live for that 100 year period
--They will be taught all truth, have access to the Holy
Spirit and have their one opportunity to enter the Kingdom
with eternal life.
--There will be marriage, but no children will be born
during this time as this is the White Throne Judgment time
and it would not fit the design to have new humans created
in this time period.
As we know, the marriage covenant today is till death do us
part. If one's spouse dies today, the marriage is over and
the living spouse is free to marry again.
Such will be the case in the 100 year period of the Second
Resurrection. No one will be tied to any previous marriage
contract. Thank God for this, for we could list all kinds
of situations of people who had multiple wives in their life
time or even who had multiple wives at the same time.
Remember, God is resurrecting people from all of history and
from all types of cultures and nations.
God will choose everyone's mates for them. This could
easily include the fact that He would put back together a
couple who married young, had a long and happy marriage all
their lives before dying. We know from all our examples in
the Old Testament of how God arranged the marriages of His
people. Many true believers today will tell you that the
mates they have now were brought to them by God. He did it
with His people (firstfruits)
then (Old Testament)
times, beginning with Adam and for a number of people we
could name. It is not a stretch to believe He does this
today and will do it during the 1,000 year reign of Christ
and in the 100 years of the White Throne Judgment. This
fact precludes all the problems we would have if we tried to
solve who is married to whom based on previous history. |
