SUBJECT:  Christmas

QUESTION:  Our family is not keeping Christmas for the first time.  How do I approach this change of beliefs and family tradition with the children?

ANSWER:

It seems clear that you are coming to understand that the Christmas holiday (from Holy Day) is a counterfeit of the real holy days of the Feast of Tabernacles.  Christmas is therefore evil (not of God) and the Feast of Tabernacles is good (of God).

The Bible says...

Psalm 34:14

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Isaiah 7:15

Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

Romans 12:21

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:9

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

It is not necessary to attack the keeping of Christmas before your children.  Merely state simply that you want to follow God and do things His way.  Tell them that you are going to keep the Feast of Tabernacles...

Leviticus 23:34-36

34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.

35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.

Deuteronomy 16:13-15

13 Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine:

14 And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.

15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD shall choose: because the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

Zechariah 14:16-19--Keeping the Feast after Christ Returns

16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the

LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.

18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the

LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Now, during the Feast, it is appropriate to give gifts to your children and to anyone for that matter.  Going to the Feast and all the activities and excitement are much more fulfilling that Christmas.  God blesses the Feast.
